Cognitive Development in Jean Piaget’s Work and its Implications for Teachers

چکیده
This paper reviewed definitions for four concepts related to the central concept of sociability (social cognition, social competence, social skills and social behavior). Cognitive psychologists have begun to address how motivational factors influence adults' performance on cognitive tasks. However, little researched has examined how different motivational factors interact with one another to affect behavior across the life span. Jean Piaget (1896-1980) was a biologist who originally studied molluscs (publishing twenty scientific papers on them by the time he was 21) but moved into the study of the development of children's understanding, through observing them and talking and listening to them while they worked on exercises he set. His view of how children's minds work and develop has been enormously influential, particularly in educational theory. His particular insight was the role of maturation (simply growing up) in children's increasing capacity to understand their world: they cannot undertake certain tasks until they are psychologically mature enough to do so. His research has spawned a great deal more, much of which has undermined the detail of his own, but like many other original investigators, his importance comes from his overall vision. Cognitive Precursors to Language
To answer both these questions people have turned to the work of Jean Piaget. And, more recently, they have also considered the writing of Soviet psychologist Lev Vygotsky. Discussion of the relationship between cognition and the child’s emerging use of language generally makes reference to both Piaget and Vygotsky. Piaget’s work was drawn upon in early research on first words (e.g. Bates, 1979...

Jean is a model of early cognitive development based loosely on Piaget’s theory of sensori-motor and pre-operational thought (Piaget, 1954). Like an infant, Jean repeatedly executes schemas, gradually extending its schemas to accommodate new experiences. We model this process of accommodation with the Experimental State Splitting algorithm. We present the algorithm and demonstrate, in three tra...

Jean Piaget, a biologist, philosopher, and most notably a developmental psychologist, had a profound impact upon many aspects of education. His work with Binet and Simon in 1919 sparked his interest in intellectual functioning. It is interesting that Piaget and his colleagues, Binet and Simon developed such different assessment procedures to measure aptitude and intelligence. The psychometric a...
